Starting an online business requires a website. Creating your own website can fun and a little tedious. It requires a lot of hard work, ideas, creativity, and just a lot of thought being put into it. The first thing you want to do when creating a website is keeping it simple. You don’t want to make a website hard to navigate because then people won’t bother to search through the website or even bother to see what your website has to offer as a business. Also, keeping it simple works better for websites because when people get on websites, they typically browse and flip through pages. They don’t read in a linear way like you would read a book or from top to bottom. Prospective customers want to be able to get straight to the point. They are usually in a hurried distraction. So, keep it simple.
Another thing to keep in mind when creating a website for your business is you want to create content that attract customers. So, it starts with making your site easy to navigate. Navigation can help with marketing so, it’s really important to create a site that’s easy to browse through. Think about it, if you place your sites main topics at the top of the page, then you could be ranked highly by search engines because some search services index the first 50 words on web pages. If you can get a lot of important keywords in the first 50 words on your site or included in your index, then the chances are your website can get highly ranked on popular search engines. It’s a simple and easy marketing trick that begins with navigation. It’s a part of creating content that attract customers.
You want to strike the right tone with your text. Your business has a personality so, you want to make the text in the description about your business striking to the perspective customers. You want to use the tone of your text to help with the explanation of what makes your business unique and what distinguishes it from your competitors. Having quotes displayed on your page from people who have tried your products or services can help with this part of your website in a big way because people like to see good reviews.
You always want to establish a visual identity. A visual identity is important because visuals convey a particular message about your business. Using the right graphics and images to communicate with your audience is establishing a visual identity. It’s important to choose the appropriate background, using web type faces, or using clip art. Choosing whether or not to incorporate one of these on your webpage contributes to establishing a visual identity. I’m sure everyone has heard of the saying “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Using a photo that has captured the right image, with the right amount of editing and adjustments, can be very beneficial to your website. Also, a logo establishes your business graphic identity. A logo doesn’t have to be complex, but it has to be something unique and something you can identify and associate your business with. It gives your business purpose.
I have been in the process of creating my website and being mindful of all of these techniques. Its fun coming up with ideas and having a vision, but putting it all together and trying to make it to come to life is harder then most people think.
